The Old Town square is a fairly inspiring sight.Despite being completely destroyed by the Germans in WWII, it was rebuilt and you would never know now that what you see isn't original. The square gets fairly touristy but is an absolute must see. Whilst you're in the Old Town, check out the Royal Castle and the catholic churches. There are also some lovely markets tucked away.

Lazienki Park is large enough to keep you occupied for the best part of a day if you chose to explore the buildings there too. The highlights of the park are the Chopin Monument and the Lazienki palace which is constructed on an artificial island in the middle of a lake. There are Chopin concerts staged here too and beautiful gardens complete with peacocks and an amphitheatre. Also worth doing whilst you're there is getting a gondola ride down the river.

Kazimierz is the Jewish quarter and is well worth a visit as it is a very important area in the history of the city. You can get a free walking tour which is very informative. There are many synagogues to see. The Plac Nowy has a market on Sundays which is a great sight. The Plac Wolmica is the central square of the Jewish district and the town hall and church here are impressive. The Jewish cemetery is also worth a look.

The Rynek Glowny is the market square of Krakow and is apparently the largest medieval square in Europe. The surrounding buildings are very beautiful and are obviously the work of centuries of revisions and revamps. There are lots of nice little restaurants and bars tucked away in courtyards set back from the square. The Basilica and the history museum are both located in the square.

This is the castle where the Polish monarchs lived and ruled from between the 11th and 17th century. It is perched above the city and is a highlight of Krakow. There are some great views of the city from the castle. Inside, you'll see a fine collection of tapestries and wooden carvings. The armoury is worth a visit as is the fire breathing dragon!
