Batu Caves

posted by kwheeler on 12 August 2010 at 15:18

The Batu Caves are incredible limestone formations on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. The largest of the 3 is occupied by a hindu temple which can be accessed by a majestic staircase. Every year in January and February, thousands of people descend on the area for the Thaipusan festival.

Petronas Twin Towers

posted by hhill on 12 August 2010 at 15:12

If you want to see the view from the bride of the twin towers, you'll have to arrive really early in the morning as tickets are very limited and go quickly. Security and searches are very stringent but its all worth it. From 170 metres above street level you can see for miles. The Bridge itself is longer than an Olympic swimming pool which is quite a daunting distance...

Wellington Zoo

posted by lrandolph on 12 August 2010 at 15:06

The Wellington zoo is really pleasant. There's a real emphasis on attending to the welfare and happiness of the animals and all the animals from the kiwis to the zebras to the chimps seemed content and cared for with enough room to run around freely.

Zealadia: Kaori Sanctuary

posted by nwilson on 12 August 2010 at 15:02

The Kaori Sanctuary is a beautiful area of fenced in conserved woodland. Its incredible how peaceful and well maintained given how close to the city centre it is. There are some little cafes and diners within the walls of the sanctuary too.

Botanical Gardens

posted by wbiery on 12 August 2010 at 14:57

The Botanical Gardens are really beautiful and well maintained. Make sure you get the cable car up and walk back down into town, the other way round is exhausting. The highlights were the rose garden and the begonia house- both personal favourites- which were very well maintained.
