This is a really informative museum. Its great to see such a good display of Maori art as well as the 'Awesome Forces' section which demonstrates how natural disasters occur. There is also a simulation of an earthquake shaking a house which is very well done.

Go for a punt on the Avon, it's a lovely relaxing experience. I suppose it's a bit steep at $20 for half an hour but really romantic nonetheless.

The Arts centre is the area in central Christchurch of beautiful old buildings grouped around the Gothic revival Canterbury university. On Sundays there is a lovely little farmers' market with fresh produce and international cuisine available.

The Christchurch Antarctic centre is as close as you're likely to get to the south pole without actually going there. There are lots of exhibits about conditions there as well as encounters of the explorers' missions. You can also experience a snow storm at 20 degrees below zero!

The botanical gardens are really beautiful and have a lovely array of different species of flowers and plants. There are also some nice sculptures and fountains in the grounds as well as a coffee shop and some food vendors- a great place for a leisurely afternoon's stroll.
