Visiting Ellis Island is a humbling experience, as this is a museum which recreates the exact portal through which most immigrants came to the United States in the late 1800s to mid-1900s. Ellis Island has been beautifully restored and provides moving exhibits about the journey that Europeans took to enter the United States and make their way in the new land. This is a somber museum that provides thoughtful discussion to anyone who has ancestors who came to the United States through this awe-inspiring building. A highly recommended visit, which also provides great views of New York City, so you get more bang for your buck.
