Ok this is a must see landmark in Paris, full of history, information and beauty. With that being said, there are definite ways to see Notre Dame avoiding long lines and hassles. First you have to go first thing in the morning on a weekday. Take your pictures of the square, and then go into the church which opens at 8:30. Explore the church for around an hour or so, then go and get on the line that is now forming for the towers. Grab a coffee from the little coffee shop while you wait. When the towers open climb the long narrow steps slowly, take your time and do not buy anything from the gift shop on the way up. You may want to stop and look around to catch your breath, but avoid the temptation to buy until you are on your way back down. Why carry the bags up then down? After the towers spend the money to take the treasury tour. If you are lucky to be there on a Friday you will see the crown of thorns on display, but there are hundreds of relics to see.
