Amazing place this palace-cum-dungeons, with a fiery history! Be sure to speak to a guide to get the whole picture! Wonderful old buildings too, Paris seems really great at holding on to its heritage.

Palace of Versilles

Totally stunning, what a show of opulence and granduer! The gardens were the highlight for me, with the fountains and the formal french style geometrical gardens. I loved it all and would definitely recommend taking a day out of your packed Paris must-do schedule to go here.

Palace of Versailles

The largest building in Europe, apparently, and what a sight! So sumputous! I could happily live in any one of the rooms, but would love a view of the amazing gardens please!

Palace of Verailles

Definitely worth heading out of Paris for, this is astonishingly sumptuous and ornate. I can't imagine ever being able to live in even one of the rooms! The Hall of mirrors is just stunning, although I can't pick a favourite bit!

versailles, the RER goes all the way there which makes it pretty easy, stop verailles rive gauche, then a shortish walk

Grand Trianon

posted by vwentzel on 16 November 2010 at 09:46

If you visit Versailles, be sure to make the 30 minute hike from the main site to the Grand Trianon which is the estate of marie Antoinette and built on the site of a village which had to be levelled to make way for her. Marie Antoinette has always fascinated me and this really lived up to expectations. the ornamental gardens especially are really beautiful with a canal winding past.
