Ipanema

Ipanema has to be the hippest spot in Rio and benefits from the Copacabana's pull on tourists. There are lots of nice restaurants and shops in the area surrounding the beach and you must stop at one of the many beach bars for a caiparinha. There are lots of sports played on the beach and its generally a very sociable place.

This must be one of the most famous beaches in the world, and since its recent clean up, is one of the best. There's an enormous expanse of pristine sand and its worth going just to watch the football and beach volleyball matches that take place regularly here.
