I wanted to get off the tourist circuit on my holiday in Rome, so my hubby and me headed for this hill. We saw the amazing paintings of the houses that stood here (and still do, just underground), and had a relaxing lunch in the stunning Villa Celimontana gardens.

For all the attention-grabbing bit of Rome, this simple square was my favourite place to just go and hang out with a gelato. You can take a little stroll in the Borghese gardens, or just sit by the obelisk and watch the world go by.

My grandmother, mother and I spent a delightful day here. I adored the Garden of Fragrances, plants that you have to touch or smell, and my family were just delighted with all the really old plants, although none quite as old as the garden itself, which was started in the 13th century!
