It is the famous Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, known for its amazing paintings on the walls and ceilings. Even if you do not believe in what the Catholic Church teaches, you can not deny the beauty of this art. The best way to see it is to get into the Vatican Museum as early as possible (tour guides get their own line, so think about if that is worth the cost to you) and once you are in, rush straight to the Sistine Chapel. You will be there with few other people, and get to enjoy it practically on your own, and then you can later go back and see the rest of the Vatican Museum.

The Vatican Museums were my absolute favorite tourist attraction to visit in Rome. In the museum are some of the most amazing pieces of artwork in the entire world, and the building itself, with its fresco ceilings, and mosaic tile floors is a work of art in and of itself. Just be sure to follow the rules, and keep elbows and knees covered, and you will have a great time.

This church is the largest Basilica of Christianity, nestled in the heart of Vatican City, which lies within the Roman district. Built upon what is believed to be the grave of St. Peter. This magnificent structure and its adjoining buildings and chapels provides a breathtaking history of the Catholic church, plus marvelous opportunities for personal reflecting and prayer. If you are there on a Sunday at noon, there is a good opportunity to see the Pope appear at his window. A walk or elevator ride to the cupola is also in order. There are guided and self-guided tours. You need to leave a good deal of time to take in all that St. Peter's has to offer.
