This is the house of Pablo Neruda, built especially to house his mistress. It is an utterly sureal building- designed in parts to resemble a ship. It contains the remnants of his vast collections although sadly a large part of his library was torched under Pinochet. There's a nice little cafe in the house.

This beautiful art nouveau building once housed exhibitions but it feels like it was always meant to be a market. It is dominated by fish stalls and fruit vendors and there are a number of restaurants inside which make good places to stop off for lunch.

This is the main square of Santiago and hard to miss really. As main squares go, its very nice. You'll find lots of artists and buskers here as well as some of the city's best architecture- including the spectacular cathedral. You should look out for the monument to the indigenous people which is an utterly unique piece of sculpture.

The Cerro Santa Lucia is a sprawling fortified park area on a hill in central Santiago. It was founded in 1872 to comemorate the spot where the city grew from. The grounds are filled with fountains and statues as well as some other bizarre structures. You can climb the steep steps to the castle which has excellent views over the city. The park does become a bit seedy later on in the day.
