Skansen is a large open air museum designed to showcase architecture from across the country. There is also a lovely zoo which has mooses in it. Its a lovely and very educational place to visit. At christmas time it is especially nice as there are various markets and handicrsft shops.

The Kungliga Slottet is the traditional seat of the monarchy and although the royal family no longer live here, there are still ceremonies held. It is a very attractive building dating back from the 1700s. You can get a tour around the state appartments and see crowns, swords and other beautiful royal signifiers.

Vasa museum is a museum dedicated to the Vasa warship that sank minutes after it set sail in the 17th century. The vessel wasn't recovered from Stockholm harbour until fairly recently and has been reconstructed and is on display. Its a fascinating sight and an impressive achievement. There are also a lot of exhibits detailing the building of the ship and life in General in 17th century Sweden.

Gamla Stan is the old town of Stockholm and is a really beautiful area. The stringent building restrictions mean that the traditional architecture of the area is maintained in tact. It gets very expensive around here with shops geared almost soley towards tourists and restaurants serving bland international fare. Much better to just get lost in the back streets where you can really appreciate the old fashioned ambiance of the place.
