Arthur's Seat

posted by kwyatt on 28 April 2009 at 19:38

The Arthur's Seat is an extinct volcano that rises above the city of Edinburgh and offers stunning views of the city. It is an absolute must for any visitor to the city to hike up to the summit. It takes between an hour and and hour and a half to hike to the top depending upon which way you go up. There are two different paths, one hard and one easy. The hard path is quite exhausting, consisting mainly of steps that at points are almost vertical, so make sure you are prepared if you hike up that way (i.e. bring water). Once you get to the top, you have wonderful views of Edinburgh and the surrounding area, especially of the castle. This can be a wonderful capstone to the end of a vacation or the introduction to a neat and vibrant city.

Next to Holyrood Palace, at lower end of the Royal Mile. Also can be approached from the Commonwealth Pool.
