I wasn't too impressed at having to start the day at the crack of dawn but I have to say the canyon is pretty special. Stunning colours, an amazing walk, it looks like Gaudi designed the shapes or something in some places! You really do want to go early, it gets hot and busy as the sun rises.

It's quite a long way north of sharm but if you're on an excursion you can just sleep til you arrive!

We decided to head out of Sharm for the day and see the natural sight of the coloured canyon. We went as part of a tour which was great as everything was arranged for us, and we even got taken to a Bedouin site too which was interesting and beautiful. The canyon is stunning, one of the best places i've ever been to and would recommend going to anyone who goes on holiday in Sharm El Sheikh.

A stunning walk goes down the side of this canyon, it's lovely to get out and about and see some of the countryside. Look out for Cenobio Valeron, the cult/ritual site that belonged to the original inhabitants here. A trip down into the canyon offers a strange landscape with odd rocks and caves and unlikely plants.

It's a pretty early start but as you start you feel the mercury rising you realise it's a good plan. The canyon is gorgeous, the rocks have such beautiful colours, and our guide was great, pointing out little bit we might miss overhead etc. Not cheap but you do also get to go to a different beach/local market which is nice to cool down.

Terrifying drive to get there but well worth it, we had a day of white water rafting and it was totally stunning and really wicked fun. Would definitely recommend to most adventurous people, but the safety equipment might not be small enough for kids!
