Wonderful! I loved both their permanent collection as well as their temporaray exhibits, the whole place feels so cohesive, like there's a plan. Lovely atmosphere, perfect trip for an afternoon.

An amazing site where several traditional houses from the native population have been transported and set up all together. Totally stunning collection of things, you can see the love that went into making these look so good and it's such a mystery as to where he got to...

The Sir William Burrell and his wife Constance, Lady Burrell, gifted his collection of over 9,000 works of art to Glasgow. William Burrell had been a art collector since his teens. He collected the work from all over the world. The medieval art collection is also there. fine collection of works from ancient China, Egypt, Greece and Rome. It is a really good place to see the collection even children should see so that they will know what kind of things where used in last years.

The Burrell Collection

posted by JohnG on 31 March 2009 at 18:44

More than 9,000 pieces of art work reside in this collection of eclectic art that was collected by Sir William Burrell and his wife Constance. The collection was given to the city of Glasgow in 1944 and specified that it be displayed outside of the city limits, so it could be protected from the elements. However, they were unable to find a suitable place by the time of Burrell's death, but a 300-acre estate was discovered in the city that was donated by Mrs. Anne Macdonald. This museum is interesting because of the extensive array of medieval art, tapestries, paintings, fabric, furniture, stained glass and alabaster that it contains. The building is also light, airy and pleasant and it resides in a nice country setting, perfect for picnicking and outdoor activities.
