Lazienki Park is large enough to keep you occupied for the best part of a day if you chose to explore the buildings there too. The highlights of the park are the Chopin Monument and the Lazienki palace which is constructed on an artificial island in the middle of a lake. There are Chopin concerts staged here too and beautiful gardens complete with peacocks and an amphitheatre. Also worth doing whilst you're there is getting a gondola ride down the river.

These free botanical gardens are the perfect place to while away a sunny afternoon in Bordeaux. There are four regions within the gardens -the water garden, the gallery, the trail and the greenhouses. The gardens are well maintained and in the sunshine an idyllic spot for a picnic and a glass of local wine. We were impressed at the level of horticultural research being carried out in the garden's greehouses.

These are some small, beautiful gardens. They have been allowed to become a bit overgrown and the moss covered walls are very evocative. Inside you'll see some beautiful buildings representing different architecture styles. There's the Manilla Cathedral there. My favourite is the San Augustin Church which is a beautiful baroque building. There are some great handicraft shops here too.

The Kaori Sanctuary is a beautiful area of fenced in conserved woodland. Its incredible how peaceful and well maintained given how close to the city centre it is. There are some little cafes and diners within the walls of the sanctuary too.

The Botanical Gardens are really beautiful and well maintained. Make sure you get the cable car up and walk back down into town, the other way round is exhausting. The highlights were the rose garden and the begonia house- both personal favourites- which were very well maintained.
