No longer a bloody battle scene, today the gate is the best way to enter the city, not its most heavily fortified!!

This is the big entrance to the old town, the only way to arrive if you want to see it properly! Go through and explore the old narrow streets and see what you can find for yourself.

I had a feeling of being very small and insignificant when I was here at the gate and would not have liked to be an attacker trying to get through the walls! Totally majestic.

It's amazing that this magnificent gate has lasted from the Helicarnassus period, especially when you think that the other 7km of the walls have been destroyed over time. Fabulous place.

Wonderful and ornate entrance door to the Kaleici, the carvings are so beautiful, you can see why the romans decided to keep it and just incorporate it into their walls.
