Gateway of India

Built as a triumphal arch to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary, its four turrets and beautiful latticework carved into the yellow basalt stone is still Mumbai's most famous monument. The Gateway is more often called Gateway of India Mumbay, after completion in 1924, it finally was first opened on December 4, 1924 by the Viceroy.
