My mother and I went here on an island tour and were absolutely captivated by the skill of the craftsmen and the beauty of the glass. We walked about all day and saw fabulous galleries, the lovely museum and pretty churches. Definitely a must for anyone who likes colours!

National Archaeological Museum of Naples

posted by hcrissman on 29 July 2009 at 01:28

Most older cities have museums which commemorate the archaeology of the city or area, and Naples is no different. The National Archaeological Museum is located in a building that dates back to the mid 1500s and was originally a stable. It then became a school and has been renovated and added on to over the years until its present day use as a museum. This museum houses one of the most important collections of antiquities in the world and includes treasures from Greco-Roman history. The museum holds statuary, documents, coins, glass, books, paintings and reproductions and recreations of historical structures. If you are interested in finding out more about Naples while you are visiting the city, then this museum is a must-see. It allows you to appreciate the rest of Naples, since you will get a solid and comprehensive history from all of the exhibits and displays. Although some of the displays are very academic, youngsters will be able to learn a lot, as long as the parents provide some interpretation. Definitely plan a visit here!

Lafiore

The skill required for hand blown glass is amazing, and I always love seeing these artists at work. At this location, not only can you see each one of a kind piece being lovingly produced, there is of course a gift shop, outlet, and retail center to bring home a memento. I have one from each of my trips here.
