Anthropological Museum

posted by mtoyley on 25 August 2010 at 16:41

The Anthropological museum is one of the best museums in the world supposedly and is really informative- the kind of place you could spend half a day in. The admission price is only a couple of pounds. There are exhibits on the pre historic period, lots of information on the Aztecs and there are also travelling exhibits here on world anthropology.

Pammukale and Hierapolis

posted by hhawker on 25 August 2010 at 16:16

Pammukale and Hierapolis are the ancient hotwater springs and holy Roman town. They are very popular with tourists and there are many tours running here from Antalya - a blessing and a curse. The carbon deposit structure is really striking though and it's not hard to see why the Turks call this place the 'cotton castle'.

Marmaris Castle

posted by qcaldwell on 25 August 2010 at 16:02

The Marmaris castle dates backto the 3rd century BC and was constructed by the Ionians. The current structure is, i think about 500 yeatrs old and quite quaint in appearance. It's very pretty though and there are some lovely little alleyways of old houses grouped around the edge of the castle. The views from the castle are lovely too. Its open daily.

Martin Luther King Centre

posted by phoffhants on 25 August 2010 at 13:46

This is a really moving experience and a fantastic tribute to one of Atlanta's most important sons. It covers in total a four block area and the highlights in my opinion are the birth house of Martin Luther King and the nearby church where three generations of his family preached.

Swiss National Museum

posted by wreighner on 25 August 2010 at 12:42

The Swiss National Museum lives inside an amazing Germanic neo gothic fairytale castle of a building. At Christmas time, it's especially lovely as it hosts a festive market and an ice rink. The museum itself is a comprehensive collection of exhibits chronicling the history of Switzerland from prehistoric times to the modern day. Thoroughly educational.
