Al Maha Desert Resort

posted by croadman on 16 November 2010 at 16:48

The Al Maha resort is literally in the desert about 45km outside the city. It is incredible and was worth every penny. The rooms are bedouin tent style, ours had its own private pool and a beautiful little patio that wild animals would come up to in the evenings. The food was amazing and we spent the days going on camel safaris in the desert, watching falcon displays and lounging around in complete luxury.

The Grand Resort

I usually wouldn't be too keen on this kind of Ali Baba and the forty thieves-esque accommodation. It is fairly high kitsch with turrets and domes and plenty of tacky lattice work. However, it's a really top quality hotel with nearly 900 rooms, 9 resaturants, 4 bars, 2 massive pools and a couple of beautiful swimming pools. There's also access to the private beach of Grand Hotel.

Steigenberger Al Dau Beach Hotel

This is a beautiful brand new hotel with top quality service and top top prices. The breakfast and dinner buffets were great with an absolutely vast choice of dishes. The gardens are vast and beautiful and contain the hotel's swimming pools. I can also recommend the spa, which is really state of the art, though you really pay for it with most treatments costing around the 100 euros mark!

Sheraton Miramar Resort

This is a great resort. I would highly recommend it to anyone wondering where to stay in Hurghada. The rooms themselves are beautiful and we were lucky enough to be in one right on the beach. The beach is incredible, with pristine white sand and clear deep blue water.

Iberotel Makadi Beach

posted by fbraun on 16 November 2010 at 16:07

This is the place to stay if you're travelling with kids as it's a reasonable distance from the centre of Hurghada so not at all noisy at night time. There are some great views and a lovely stretch of beach with a few watersports on offer. There's also an amazing swimming pool- unique in shape and absolutely massive. The staff are very attentive and the lobby which houses a cocktail bar and ice cream parlour is a lively and enjoyable place to spend the evening.
