The dramatic mix of the old prison which used to house political prisoners (inclusing nelson mandela) and criminals, and the new constitution building is really intersting. you can explore the old jail, as well as the new courts and human rights library. this is a fascinating place just bursting with information and interest.

Without a doubt one of the coolest places to visit in the San Francisco area is the former island prison of Alcatraz. The tour is incredibly interesting, and you see many of the former structures and cell blocks of the prison, including where some of the most infamous prisoners were kept. There is also an exhibit on when Native Americans captured the island in a protest during the 1960s.

While Dublin is an incredibly rich city culturally, one of the most moving experiences that I had when visiting it was taking the time to see the Kilmainham Gaol Historical Museum. This museum served as a prison in the 19th century, and is the site where many of the leaders of the Easter Rebellion of 1916 were imprisoned, and later executed. For any fans of Irish history, it is a must see.

The Tower of London is a must do tourist site when in London. First buy your tickets on line and pick them up at the kiosk. You will save a ton of time and some money. Second get there early and visit preferably during the week. If you go later in the day on a weekend and did not pre-purchase your ticket then off with your head! When we were there the Crown Jewels were not, I have no idea where they were, but they were not there which sucked. So you might want to find out if they will be there during your visit and time your trip to the Tower accordingly. The Beefeaters (the guards not the gin) were for the most part jerks to the tourists. I guess it sucks to wear that outfit all day and deal with tourists, but the jerkiness was not called for. Kudos to the guy who took one of their hats during our visit. It was quite amusing as we watched them have a hissy fit with each other over it (no stiff upper lip here, they were having cows) Highlight of the trip to London.

This is a great historical site that uses actors to transform you back to Edinburgh's past through role playing and interpretation. Your journey begins in a 17h century court of law where the verdict is always "Guilty" and the punishment is harsh - the dungeon! You'll trace some of Edinburgh's gruesome history through this fascinating tour. Not for the squeamish! But a very interesting tourist attraction.
