Petit Palais

Magnificent art gallery, in a gorgous town house. The collection is impressive and dates from 1870 to 1930 so there's plenty of exciting things going on in the art world then. The picassos were my favourite (as always).

Hamburger Bahnhof

What's not to like about somewhere named after food eh? But really this is an excellent modern art gallery. The building has been sympathetically added to during renovation and the collections are excellent, particularly the marx collection.

Centro de Arte Contemporaneo de Malaga

My boyfriend and I loved this modern art museum. The building is fabulous too, it was the old wholesalers market and the industrial/medina mix is apparent. We enjoyed both the permanent and temporary collections and the spaces were great.

National Gallery of Modern Art

We'd got a bit fed up with our experience of India being so entirely dictated by historical buildings and artworks. The museum of modern art was a welcome respite and quite interesting but really not much more - the exhibits feel a bit trite and the whole set up is a little rough around the edges.

Chagall's four seasons

posted by gstainforth on 2 November 2010 at 09:39

The four seasons mosaic wall by Marc Chagall is an extraordinary work. Not just becasuse of its size - though at 70 ft long and 14ft high, it is really imposing - but also for its vivid colours and fantastical characters, all of which are impressivly achieved in the medium of mosaic!
