The National Gallery of Scotland, while perhaps a smaller gallery than others, it is a wonderful secondary attraction one must visit in Edinburgh. It is a warm and inviting museum that provides an excellent break from some of the more strenuous tourist attractions (i.e. Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat). The museum has a wide range of art, including a collection of specifically Scottish art. Being a fan of impressionist art, they have a small collection, but what they lack in size is more than made up for in quality, with some very nice works from Monet and Van Gogh. In summary, if you only have a day to spend in Edinburgh, there are other attractions that you should spend your time; however, for a multi-day visit, this is a stop that is well-worth a visit.
