Cabo del Gata

posted by cburney on 23 November 2010 at 10:18

Most Almeria beaches have been turned into tourist resorts but Cabo del Gata is Almeria's great wilderness area- excluding Fort Bravo which is a man made wilderness! There are some amazing rock formations jutting out of the sea and some of the beaches are completely desserted.

Desierto de Almeria

THis is the only semi desert area in Europe and certainly some parts of it feel more like North Africa than Spain. It's dusty scrubland for the most part but the vast expanses of sky and the cloud formations are really captivating. I'd definitely recommend a day trip here.

Shelley Beach

posted by xfowler on 16 November 2010 at 16:00

You can get a ferry to and from Manly, if you happen to be in Sydney. From here its a short walk round to the much nicer Shelley beach which is very quiet and quite secluded. There's also a lovely little cafe here where you can get fresh seafood caught locally.

BOndi Beach to Coogee Beach

posted by fdryfus on 16 November 2010 at 15:55

You'd be hard pushed to getlost on this scenic walk as you just follow the cliffs around from Bondi. There are lots of great views and lovely uncrowded beaches along the way - Tamarama and Bronte especially are worth stopping at. You'll also pass a graveyard perched high up on cliff tops which is a beautiful sight.

Spit Point to Manly walk

posted by hdiller on 16 November 2010 at 15:49

This is a lovely scenic walk. It's about 9km and takes about 4 hours. Get a bus over Sydney Harbour Bridge to Spit Point and set off from there. You'll see some lovely ocean views, as well as the possibility of glimpsing some wildlife - lizards, small (and harmless) snakes and some aboriginal rock carvings. Manly is a lovely little secluded fishing village where you can have a little rest for a bit before getting on the ferry to Darling Harbour.
