The South Bank Parklands are the legacy of the 1988 world expo and aren't like any city parks I've ever seen. They have areas of cultivated rainforest and swampland. There is also a vast man made beach which is a great spot to cool off- especially if you're there at the height of summer. Another nice touch is the Nepalese peace pagoda.

We needed some respite from the heat and traffic and headed to the Giardini Publicci. They're really beautiful and well kept and surprisingly quiet given the fact that they sit right in the middle of town.

Belfast's Botanical Gardens are a lovely tranquil spot and have a wide variety of plant species. The gardens feature a beautiful and fairly typical Victorian Birdcage style greenhouse.
