Playa de Cochino

posted by gburney on 2 February 2011 at 13:47

I guess that you'll find, if you're on Gran Canaria that you'vce got the pick of the beaches. It's hard to find a bad one really and the only negative factor sometimes is that some of them can get quite crowded. We've been to Playa de Cochino a couple of times and can highlky recommend it for soft sand. small waves, warm water and relative under crowding.

Palmintos

About 10 km from Maspalamas is the sweet little park of Palmintos where there are some lovely cactuses and tropical birds. A good respite from baking in the sun and a good spot to get some shade.

La Ereta

This is a park on the slope of Mount Benacantil. It has some amaziong views down over the town, the Santa Cruz neighbourhood, the cathedral and the port. There's a nice restaurant at one end of the park and it's generally just a really nice place to while away a couple of hours.

Parque de Canalejas

THis is a lovely park with beautiful fountains, some massive, old ficus trees covering the path and a generally very nice ambience. At dusk it's great for people watching as lots of people come out to take their evening walk and meet friends.

Kos Harbour

Having just got back from Kos I wanted to mention how delightful the harbour is, with its lovely views, the Hipocrates tree and all the sculptures, I really enjoyed sitting there reading and contemplating the world, the perfect way to escape the stresses and strains of life.
