The Boma Guest House

posted by klinton on 11 November 2009 at 23:39

I had spent a chunk of my youth in Entebbe, so my return after a 45 year absence was full of anticipation. I emailed the owners, Bernie and Simon, before my trip with some questions about the location of the Boma and Simon provided answers by return of email. He even included some Google Earth snapshots so I could orient myself to their location. This service turned out to be a precursor to the homely treatment I received over my 5 day stay there. Bernie, Simon, Seija and their staff couldn't have been nicer! The Boma is a collection of small cottages that surround a refurbished house built in Uganda's British colonial era. Meals are provided on the house's front verandah which overlooks a beautifully maintained garden. The property is surrounded by walls and entry to it is through security gates. These do provide for a very secure feeling but this seems hardly necessary given the friendliness of the Ugandan people. I spent 5 days walking alone around Entebbe and never felt vaguely unsafe. I thought the included breakfast was really good: lots of local fruit, cereal etc (you haven't eaten a banana until you've eaten a Ugandan one!) and a cooked menu if you wanted it. The Boma has an a la carte menu available for other meals which are homely. My room was spotlessly clean and had its own bathroom. Each bed was protected by a mosquito net. The Boma also has wifi internet connectivity available free for quests and although signal strength was variable around the property, it was sufficiently strong in the reception lounge for me to contact Australia whenever I wanted. The staff were unobtrusively hospitable bringing me tea or coffee whenever I wanted them. They arranged for transport when I needed it and the Boma provides transport to and from the airport, you just need to tell them your times. I could not have asked for a better place to stay: it is a few minutes drive to the airport, there is an ATM within walking distance, you can have a game of golf nearby, and if you want to swim you can go the the old Lake Victoria hotel just round the corner and swim there for a small charge.(I believe the Boma is building a swimming pool of its own). I could not recommend this more highly.

If you want to stay in Prague, Hotel Paris is one of the best hotels in Prague. Here the interior is very lovable and attractive. The outside of the hotel looks like a king’s palace .In this hotel the rooms are very clean and the staff in this hotel provide excellent room service to the customers. Also we have nice meeting hall for the business people. Nice bar and restaurant with excellent meals. It is the nice place to stay. I enjoyed a lot here.

Gelato Mania

posted by DVC_Chris on 27 August 2009 at 02:28

The last time we were in Geneva, and wanted a tasty treat for desert after dinner, the concierge at the hotel recommended that we go a few blocks away to Gelato Mania, which, while touristy, has some of the best gelato in Switzerland. They have tons of flavors, and each time we went, there were huge lines, that are well worth the wait.

Flor da Laranja

Whenever I am in Lisbon, and want to have a romantic evening with my wife, we always like to eat at Flor da Laranja, a wonderful Moroccan restaurant in the heart of Lisbon. There are lots of pillows decorating the interior of the restaurant, and the servers always have a friendly and cheerful vibe, inviting you to share their hospitality, and their amazing food.

Nireas

posted by DVC_Chris on 27 August 2009 at 02:09

On my last cruise to Rhodes, my family discovered an amazing restaurant called Nireas. Located in the old walled city, we discovered it when a very insistent maitre de convinced us to have lunch there. While they have all kinds of Greek food, their specialty is seafood, and they have some of the best and freshest we have ever tried in Greece.
