The old town is really beautiful and the kind of place that rewards not having a map and getting blindly lost. We wondered around for hours and stumbled on lots of lovely little churches, restaurants and bars many of which play live music in the evenings. Look out for the Marmontoro fish market and the Milesi Palace. The People's Square just outside the old town gates is the modern day centre of town and a great spot to head to in the evening.

The Rynek Glowny is the market square of Krakow and is apparently the largest medieval square in Europe. The surrounding buildings are very beautiful and are obviously the work of centuries of revisions and revamps. There are lots of nice little restaurants and bars tucked away in courtyards set back from the square. The Basilica and the history museum are both located in the square.

The bay is renowned for playing host to some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world and it's definitely a sight to behold. Harbour square and the Seaside Boulevard are both great places to hang out and have some excellent seafood restaurants. There's also the Cultural Centre of the Philippines nearby and the Ocean Park Aquarium which houses some sharks.

The Yuyuan gardens date back to the 16th century and after a history of neglect and vandalism are finally in a beautiful state of repair with some beautiful cherry blossoms, streams and ornate dragon walls. The surrounding area boasts some beautiful traditional Chinese buildings and there are some excellent dim sum restaurants in the area.

This is the Tokyo that I had expected to see, with flashing neon lights and enormous skyscrapers. The best area is near to the train station where you'll find an enormous array of restaurants and budget diners. Its worth a look round Kabukicho which is the red light district. Be warned though, that it can get pretty seedy here.
