Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art

posted by mmoore on 27 September 2011 at 10:07

I like the way that they have all the greats but still a large collection of modern Scottish art too. You can make a day of it here as the sculpture garden is great and leads to a walk down to the Water of Leith.

The Amber Regent

posted by SuzyQ on 13 July 2009 at 20:41

If you like Chinese food and want to see how it melds with Scottish cuisine, then a trip to the Amber Regent is in order. They specialize in seafood, especially sea bass, halibut, lobster and crayfish dishes, as well as fresh, seasonal Scottish produce. Their style of Chinese cooking is Szechuan and Mandarin, but there is always a connection to the Scottish food culture. This is a popular restaurant. They do take reservations, but you might want to try and show up between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m., when they offer nightly specials at discount prices. It is family friendly, even though it appears to be haute cuisine. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Number One

posted by DVC_Chris on 16 June 2009 at 12:52

Great food and great times are both to be had at Number One, an amazing restaurant located inside Edinburgh’s famous Balmoral Hotel. The only thing that outshines the quality of the food that comes out of the kitchen, is the personalized service that each and every member of the staff present to each and every guest. It is my favorite dining experience in Edinburgh.

St Andrew's Restaurant

posted by irishiiiiiis on 14 May 2009 at 12:09

St Andrew's is a mid priced steak and seafood restaurant. It is really like a pub that offered grub and then the grub part really took hold. Even though it is by far more food then bar atmosphere, it has still maintained that pub sort of feeling which is nice. The food and service are both very good. The restaurant is dedicated to the Scottish heritage. It offers a hugh Scotch list (over 200) and of course if you are hankering for some Haggis you can find it here as well as many other Scottish specialties.
