Susannah Place Museum

My kids and me were fascinated by this lovely turn-of-the-century corner shop in this museum. This typical working class living space tells the story of the struggle of daily life from the poorer side of the track.

Kwazulu Muti Shop

This is perhaps the oddest shop i've ever been in, but totally unique and something i'll never forget! Pretending to be a science museum, it's really an old fashioned traditional medicine shop, and smells amazing. There's so much to look at and a great place for souvenirs.

El Corte Ingles

I was surprised by this department store because along with all the usual fare they had loads of local crafts and ceramics and things. Great place to stop in and get a memento of your holiday, I love using my Alicante bowls!

Jelly Belly Factory

The kids and I adore jelly belly jelly beans and we were in our element at the factory and visitors centre. We have come home with so many sweets, particularly the unusual ones and plenty of my favourite, the cinnamon ones.

where, when, how, web
Jelly Belly Lane, Fairfield, about 50 miles from san francisco, but entry is free!

Berlinomat

If you want to take home a real bit of Berlin but can't quite stretch to a bit of wall then this design showroom is great. Loads of old-skool designs as well as innovative products to remind you of your holiday. Top buys are in the hip-hop design field, as well as eastern-bloc style sneakers.
