Absolutely beautiful spot. You wouldn't know the shrine was a reconstruction (destroyed in the war) and the gardens area worth going for them alone!

I wan't convinced by the shrine, meant to be one of the most sacred in Japan, but I loved the gardens as well as the Imperial Treasury House.

My boyfriend and I loved our visit to this shrine, resting place for over 2 million souls of the dead of WWII, and the museum which was interesting and thought-provoking (read: only cried a bit). the walkway and the gates were lovely and the shrine itself exquisite, woulde recommend to anyone.
