The kids were getting a little bored by the beach so we took them to Loro Parque for the day. I think it was originally a bird sanctuary but there are loads of other animals there now. The dolphin shows were brilliant.

I couldn't believe this place when we got here, we had a private pool and our villa was beautifully decorated and had gorgeous a four poster bed. Worth every penny.

The Mediterranean menu at La Nonna all sounded amazing, I went with the king prawns in the end and they were delicious. The location was pretty great, and we even managed to get a table on the terrace. I wasn't that impressed with the service, but thought perhaps our waitress was new?

I've always associated Tenerife with package tourism, but I went on a windsurfing trip to El Medano in the south and was pleasantly surprised to find a laid-back town and almost empty beach - though the strong winds might have contributed to that!

On Saturday the market comes to El Medano. I thought this was the best place to pick up souvenirs from Tenerife, as stalls sell lots of interesting local crafts
