It is the place one must visit, who steps into Mumbai and I am having desire to visit it on hearing about it from my relatives. Elephanta island was so named by the Portuguese, after the statue of an elephant near the landing area of the island. It is rock-cut temple of the God Siva, located 10KM away from Gateway of India, another Priciple attraction of Mumbai. The rock-cut temples are said to built for more than 300 years. The cave in the temple contains large sculpted panels relating to Siva, including the astonishing 6mt high triple-headed Trimurti - in which Siva symbolize the roles of creator, preserver and destroyer. The total area is about 60000 square feet, consists of 3 chambers, one main and two lateral. The temple has been constructed by carving the huge rock.We will get a amazing experience while visiting.
