Best known for its giant buddha statue, the monastery itself is also worth a look, and not just for the fantastic scenery that surrounds it. Delicious lunch is followed by a walk along the Wisdom Path to the Heart Sutra.

My wife and I really enjoyed it here, such a lovely place, great plants and the view from Mrs Macquarie's Chair is amazing, I could have sat there most of the day. The best bits of the Gardens were the rainforest and the cactuses.

Not far from Almeria is the beautiful arabic-feeling area of las Alpujarras, where the more you explore the more yuo are rewarded with stunning views, lovely little villages and some fairly dramatic architecture.

Stunning garden, I went to visit family in NZ and they took me here. I loved the walk we went on, the flowers and the waterfalls, every bit of it. And you can catch great views back to Auckland too!
