My daughter and I took a day trip here from Heraklion and were really taken with the town. The beach is delightful and Lake Voulismeni made the perfect lunch setting. We never did manage to find any remnants of the ancient city of Lato pros Kamara, maybe there aren't any left?

Further east than the capital, we caught the local bus and it was pretty easy

My mum and I went to this 'village' and loved it, so picturesque and peaceful you'd never know you were 15 mins from Edinburgh! On the way back we stopped in at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, having seen the beautiful water feature on TV and wanting to get a closer look.

Wow, it's really cool to see this really old settlement, and they've renovated a small bit so you can really see what it would have been like. I'd like to come back when they've finished excavating the site to see the whole village, it's crazy to think that people lived here in 6000BC!

I would defnintely advise anyone going to ayia napa to get out and about and see the area and deryneia is a great place to go. It's easy to get to and you can get great views of northern cyprus from the viewing platforms there, which recall the history of the invasion of the turkish in 1974.

just north of ayia napa, a taxi is a pretty cheap way to get there, or you could walk if you fancy it, it's not far

My boyfriend and I went on a day trip to this lovely village and beach. Would advise going into Vila Real de Santo Antonio as well, our lunch there in the old fishing town was delicious. Monte Gordo is lovely and the beach is huge, you'll definitely get some peace and quiet there and plenty of space too.

Along the coast east of Faro, you can get there on the rail i think or we drove.
