Guimar Pyramids

posted by qjackson on 24 November 2010 at 13:01

we were told about this place where a mythical ancient civilisation were supposed to have lived, their mark being these 6 pyramids make of lava stone. The area is great for a visit as it's really interesting but further research suggests that they are probably from the 19th century bout founded on a really old cave. I'd love to see the double sunset that happens there on the summer solstice!

The Black Pyramids of Tenerife

posted by Katlyn on 8 July 2009 at 22:46

The Black Pyramids are located in the Pirámides de Güímar Ethnographic Park are open every day from 9:30 AM until 6:00 PM. These lovely stone architectures from the past are built in steps, and the stones appear black or blackened because they were actually built from lava. They are rather well preserved. The whole landscape in the area is volcanic. Prices for tourist 12 and older are € 9.75 and € 5.00 for those younger. Residents are charges about 30% less for their tickets. Gulmar is a town in the district of Chacona on the southeastern or south central side of the island of Tenerife. These pyramids are likely to have been there since the 1800's and a by-product of the island's agricultural methods. Many believe the structures are more important than simple agricultural by-products due to the neat placement of the stones and the flat surfaces laid all around each one.
