Isola di San Michele

Known in the past as The Island Of The Dead because Napoleon used it as a graveyard, half is still cemetery today where plenty of famous people have been buried, such as Stravinsky. Elswehere there is a monastery and the lovely Emiliana Chapel, so nice to explore some of the other islands!

Burano

Most tourists find that Venice itself is enough to keep them occupied but I urge you to try another of the islands, just for half a day. This time, my hubby and me went to Burano and saw the lace crafts they do there at the museum. Such fine work, the lace is so delicate, gorgeous.

Torcello

My wife and I visited this island and it was near-deserted apart from plenty of cats. Going up the campanile is a must for great views and the churches there are really pretty. All in all makes for a good short trip, and help get a fuller picture of life in venice.

My mother and I went here on an island tour and were absolutely captivated by the skill of the craftsmen and the beauty of the glass. We walked about all day and saw fabulous galleries, the lovely museum and pretty churches. Definitely a must for anyone who likes colours!

The Lido + Hotel des Bains

posted by bredo on 28 December 2006 at 12:56

Its a small island near Venice. Take a speedboat to reach it. We stayed at a lovely hotel called Hotel des Bains, would highly recommend it. Quick stroll to the beach for a swim in the ocean or lie by the pool.
