This clock face is famous for being smashed in the Bond film Moonraker and so I had to visit it. The climb is steep and narrow and there's no lift but you get a facinating look at the workings of the clock as well as the reward of an amazing view of San Marco Square from the top.

It's a lot of effort to climb to the top but you are duly rewarded with perhaps the most remarkable view i've ever seen. Totally stunning to look across Venice, the lagoon and even as far as the Alps (?! I think).

Part of the hilton, it's pretty pricey but my boyfriend took me here as a treat on our last evening and it was the perfect place to view the city and reflect on our lovely holiday with posh drink in hand.

Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and while many chose to see it from a gondola, I have found that the best view is at the Campanile di San Marco, an old light house near the lagoon that has been converted to a tourist attraction. Going up into the tower gives you an amazing panoramic view of the city that should not be missed.
