Hill of the Three Crosses

posted by pschuth on 18 August 2010 at 11:46

The Hill of the three crosses is a spot just outside town comemorating the martyrdom of three orthodox monks. You can walk up without too much difficulty and from the top, you get great views out over the town.

Presidential Palace

The Presidential palace is a beautiful white building and has been graced by the likes of Napoleon and Alexander I in the past. Definately worth seeing.

Genocide Victims Museum

posted by wtillson on 18 August 2010 at 11:35

This museum is contained in the building that the KGB used as a prison and interrogation centre during the occupation. Its really quite upsetting and especially moving to see the cells in the basement which are kept perectly in tact, including the wet rooms and other interrogation rooms.

Vilnius Cathedral

posted by hweingarten on 18 August 2010 at 11:29

This is the most impressive building in Vilneus and an incredibly imposing piece of classical architecture by anyone's standards. It used to be the site of a pagan temple but is now a very sacred Catholic Cathedral and holds regular services.
