We didn’t know much about Greece‘s northernmost island until recently. We definitely didn’t know it had some of Greece’s most beautiful beaches. There are dozens to choose from on Thassos, so we’ve narrowed it down to 10 of the most attractive.

Aliki Beach

With its teal shallows overlooked by greenery, Aliki is a sight for sore eyes. Located on a southern peninsula popular with hikers, it’s close to lots of taverns where you can sample some ouzo, a traditional Greek anise-flavoured aperitif.

Astris Beach

Soft, golden sand makes up this peaceful south coast beach. Nearby is a village with tiny stone houses, olive groves and pastures filed with grazing goats and sheep. It’s a popular spot for families, especially those with young children.

Marble Beach

Looking for the type of clear water you’re likely to see washing up on the shores of a tropical Caribbean island? Head to Marble beach. It’s one of the most popular on Thassos, and this is due to the fact its coastline is made up of tiny white pebbles. This contrasts dramatically with clear, azure waves and make it one of the most photogenic on the island.

Metalia Beach

Soft sands slope gently into the sea at this beach, and the water here is extremely clear which makes it a great snorkelling location.

Notos Beach

This small, southern secluded beach is bordered by a craggy headland dotted with pine trees and bushes. In summer, there are sun beds and parasols available to hire while you stare out at the turquoise sea.

Pachis Beach

This vast stretch of white sand beach is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon. Flanked by a green mountainous landscape on one side and crystal clear ocean on the other, it’s an easily accessible beach on Thassos’ north coast, which aids its popularity.

Pefkari Beach

This Blue Flag-awarded beach lies on the island’s south coast. It has a mixture of sand and pebbles and is a popular spot for watersports lovers. Due to its popularity, you’ll find a selection of restaurants nearby, but be aware it gets very crowded during July and August.

 

Psili Ammos Beach

Park your car in the olive grove and saunter down to this gorgeous sandy beach where you can admire a stunning mountainous backdrop. The sea here is shallow and the sand is said to have healing properties, so don’t be surprised to find plenty of other sun seekers hoping to shake off that winter pallor.

Tyrpiti Beach

At the risk of sounding repetitive, Trypiti is yet another beach blessed with crystal-clear waters, making it a great place to dive and swim. Its name can be translated to “the place of holes” thanks to some strangely shaped rocks weathered by the sea.

Basically all of these beaches are amazing and quite frankly, we’d settle for any one of them right now.
