Say Du-bai to Breakfast and Hello to Brunch!

There are a few things we can be truly proud of as Brits, and foremost amongst these is the invention of brunch. According to general opinion on the internet, an English author coined the term in a fit of hangover-induced desperation, calling for those who hadn’t overindulged the night before to have mercy on those who had, and pleading that the hungover be left to sleep off the alcohol during the traditional breakfast period. The concept has since taken off around the globe, with Americans adding mimosas and waffles to the mix. Predictably, Dubai has taken the opulent spread to new heights, and now has some of the most intriguing and infamous brunches around.

For award-winning food and a relaxing atmosphere, look no further than The Promenade. Its Traiteur Brunch won at the Time Out Dubai Restaurant Awards 2019, and is available from £103 per person. It’s a steep price, but the delicate food lives up to it. Indulge on grilled lobster, duck à l’orange, and unlimited caviar – and that’s just the savoury stuff! There’s a dedicated dessert room, which offers over fifty types of sugary delights, and frankly sounds like heaven on earth. When you combine all of this refined cuisine with a tranquil waterfront terrace and in-house live band and DJ, it’s no wonder this brunch has won more than a few hearts, as well as awards.

An Instagrammer’s dream, the opulent outdoor terrace of Nikki Beach Club looks out to sea and  is festooned in flowers and millennial pink accessories. As the name suggests, the event – every Saturday – goes all out on pink, featuring pink drinks and rosé wine alongside the brunch, which is available from £55. As you might expect, it’s popular with young influencers – the resident DJ and live music both contribute to a lively atmosphere.

This swanky, seafood-heavy brunch has only recently opened up to those who don’t own yachts. As such, the clientele is predictably classy, a vibe that is only enhanced by the Mediterranean riviera-inspired decor. The club looks out over the ocean and also comes with a pool so you can go for a refreshing dip before or after your feast. It’s not surprising that the menu consists heavily of seafood – it is a yacht club, after all – and highlights include octopus with green pea puree and tuna stuffed baby peppers. The plates are designed to be shared, so order a few and try a bit of everything! You can binge on these fruits de la mer from £103.

For a fun Friday, check out Mexican chef Richard Sandoval’s passion project. Blending Mexican flavours with international ingredients and styles, Sandoval has created a delicious and unusual brunch menu that sounds utterly divine. Nachos, quesadillas and fajitas may not be what you think of when we say ‘Dubai’, but this creative spread is too good to miss. Prices start at £72 and include all-day access to the pool and beach at Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort & Spa. What’s more, there’s a buzzing post-brunch after-party that diners are invited to attend, where upbeat music combines with a spectacular sunset, and the drinks flow. From beach to brunch to bash: that’s what we’d call a fantastic Friday!

If Mexican isn’t really your thing, why not try Ramusake? This delicate restaurant promises Japanese classics with innovative modern twists. The food isn’t the only thing to receive a modern update, though: the calm atmosphere that most people associate with Japan is replaced with thumping deep house music. Combined with four hours’ worth of bottomless drinks, this brunch is sure to be lively! Choose between sitting indoors or outdoors on the terrace, and indulge in some delicious Japanese fare: the menu is succinct, but it’s still ridiculously hard to choose a favourite! We’d go for the crispy confit duck leg, yakiudon, and maybe some sushi. Yum! Luckily, the menu is designed to be shared, so you can try a few of the dishes.

All this sounding a bit too fancy? Breeze’s laid-back vibe will perk you up. Boasting a selection of comfort food with a twist, the menu includes an impressive array of meats, several burgers, and sauces like sriracha hollandaise. There are small bites and bento boxes, and a whole ‘health shack’ section. The atmosphere is party-like, attracting the young and the young at heart with its casual beachfront grill. Order what you fancy, bask in the sunshine, and then have a dance on the beach. Sounds like heaven!

As you might have gathered, there are a wealth of options when it comes to brunching in Dubai. From the laid-back beach parties to the elegant yacht clubs, there’s something to suit every taste. Make the English proud and indulge in our favourite creation – it’s the best way to beat a hangover, after all!
