Travel restrictions may change, but these were accurate at the time of writing at 10:58am on the 30th December 2021.
For a Romantic Weekend…Venice
Venice is one of the world’s most famous cities, and it’s not hard to understand why. The Piazza San Marco glistens against the Grand Canal beyond it, and cafes with black tie-clad staff serve up pastries and coffee to endlessly chic locals and tourists alike. It’s the canals of Venice that play host to the most romantic of activities, the gondola ride. While the winter months here may be chilly, they draw in significantly less crowds, making it a lovely time to explore the city.
Entry requirements: Fully-vaccinated visitors may enter Italy without self-isolating. However, you must have proof of being fully vaccinated, and also, have a negative Covid test result (either from 48 hours before with a PCR test or 24 hours before with an antigen test).
For Sun Seekers…Tenerife
January is when the UK really starts to shiver. Temperatures drop, and the warm glow of Christmas is behind us. However, the Canary Islands are always there to bring a little heat into the new year. The sunny island of Tenerife sees average temperatures of 20°C in January, meaning that you can fling those woollen coats aside in favour of sunglasses and strolls on the beach instead.
Entry requirements: Fully-vaccinated UK citizens do not need to test prior to arrival or self-isolate once arrived. You will need proof of being fully double vaccinated, and you will also need to fill out an online Health Control Form before travel.
For the Staycationer…The New Forest
The festive period is all about sitting around in your PJs watching Christmas films and eating chocolate, which is truly wonderful, but it might just be time to stretch those legs again and blow those cobwebs away. What better way to do that than by getting out into the British countryside? The New Forest in the south of England has wonderful wooded walks, wild ponies and some serious foodie spots to explore. In terms of accommodation, you’ll be able to take your pick from five-star hotels, back-to-nature glamping spots and more wallet-friendly cottage stays — there’s something for every traveller.
Entry requirements: There are, of course, no entry requirements to enter the New Forest. And, at the time of writing, there were no Covid-related restrictions in England.
To Make the Most of the Dark Days…Iceland
We know, we know…the short days of winter can be a bit of a slog. But, bear with us, in some parts of the world they bring with them the opportunity for wonder. Those who head to Iceland this January will be in with a chance of spotting the northern lights, those elusive flickering waves of green and blue that set the sky ablaze. January is an excellent time for this because there is so little sunlight, and so all the more chance to spot them. Just remember to pack your warmest clothes!
Entry requirements: Visitors to Iceland must have proof of being fully vaccinated, or of having recovered from Covid-19. You must also have a negative PCR test result, taken in the 72-hour period before arrival in Iceland.
For Far-Flung Fun…The Maldives
Looking to start your year in the lap of luxury? Look no further than the Maldives. This Christmas has been, shall we say, just a little stressful, and you might want to start 2022 in utter relaxation. Island life delivers just that. You’ll spend your days sunbathing and snorkelling amongst multicoloured fish, reef sharks and rays, before tucking into delicious, fresh fare. Sounds truly dreamy, right?
Entry requirements: In order to enter the Maldives, you must be able to present a negative PCR test result. This test will need to have been taken in the 96-hour period before departure.
