What's Hot August 2017?

As Britain gears up to the last bank holiday of the summer season, there are a whole host of festivals and celebrations not far from home to take part in! Here, we round up the festivals this month that make the most out of the long sunny days.

Notting Hill Carnival – London

As the nights draw in, it can be easy to feel as though summer is coming to a close. However, Notting Hill Carnival with its explosion of colour, sights and smells brings with it a fun, free atmosphere in which you can’t help but be transported to warmer, sunnier climes. This year’s festivities take place between the 27th – 28th August, and you can be sure to see impressive costumes and exuberant dancing.

Puck Fair – Republic of Ireland

Every year, a quirky celebration takes place in the sleepy village of Killorglin. Here, on the 10th August, a wild goat will be captured before waiting to be crowned King Puck by a school child. Once the king has been appointed, he resides in the town centre for three days before being released back to his home. During this residence there are livestock fairs alongside stalls selling trinkets and delectable food.

Oregon Eclipse Gathering – USA

This year, on the 21st August, the USA will experience its first total solar eclipse since 1979. This alone is enough to have us searching for cheap flights but there a whole host of celebrations to complement this amazing event. The Oregon Eclipse Gathering is a week long event which marries live music, theatre, circus, dance and yoga in the picturesque surroundings of the Ochoco National Forest. This secluded location means that you’ll be able to enjoy the eclipse away from the light pollution of modern life.

Edinburgh Fringe Festival – Scotland

Edinburgh is always a lovely spot for a weekend away with impressive architecture, a convivial atmosphere and delicious foodie scene. However, during the month of August the city becomes a stage for the thousands of actors, comedians and circus performers who come to perform here. Before visiting the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, it’s worth doing your research and booking some of the more well promoted shows. If you don’t though, there will still be a plethora of performances to enjoy on the city’s streets and bars.
