European Family City Breaks
Cheap family city breaks almost go hand-in-hand with European destinations. The flights are short, cheap and plentiful - and if you pick right, the culture appeals to all ages.
Family weekend breaks in Spain are always a good thing to have on the cards. Places like Barcelona are right next to the beach but are chocked full of sights to see. From the Gaudi art lining seemingly every street to the many museums, history is imprinted onto Barcelona's very identity. There?s also plenty of parks and a zoo to keep the little ones happy.
Rome is another good option if your family is into history as is Edinburgh, an even closer destination for those with impatient kids in tow.
Berlin is another great destination for family city breaks. Don't forego going the extra mile - North America has a lot of viable options for family getaways. New York is a veritable playground for avid sightseers. Kids of all ages will delight in seeing all of its iconic sights - the Empire State Building, the Rockefeller Center, Central Park and the many museums, from the American Museum of Natural History to the Children's Museum of Manhattan.
For a glimpse into this varied country's beginnings, take a historical tour around its capital, Washington, D.C.. Rent bikes as a family and see all the historical sites on the National Mall on a self-guided tour - a whole free day of activities! Definitely save time to check out the National Air and Space Museum and go up the Washington Monument, the city's tallest structure.
Somewhere Different
There are some places that you haven't necessarily thought of as the destination of your next cheap family city breaks. Denmark's Copenhagen should be placed top of the list. Think boat tours of the city, canals and harbour, fairytale-like palaces and real-life treasure hunts in Rosenborg Castle. There's also Tivoli's famous city amusement park which is chocked full of concerts, performances, rides, restaurants and exhibitions. And let's not forget the many child-friendly city museums, parks and the zoo!
The bustling souks of Marrakech should also tempt you off on family city breaks. With plenty of century-old markets to explore, stunning gardens and the Atlas Mountains nearby, this sunny city in Morocco has more appeal than you might think, no matter what age you are.
