Our Top Tips for Texas

If you go to Texas thinking it'll all be rodeos and ranches, you'll be in for a shock – the American state's moved on from yesteryear, in a big way. That said, you can (and should) still experience all this by paying a visit to Fort Worth, home to historic stockyards, ranches and rodeos a plenty. Dallas continues to be one of its most popular hotspots, check out the uber-posh Uptown and the old-world elegance of Turtle Creek, while you can't go to Houston and not take a trip around the Space Centre. Wherever you decide to stay during your holiday in Texas, our biggest tip is to hire a car in Texas – it's the most cost effective and easiest way to get around the cities and the state!.

When to Go to Texas

Hot, hot and hotter best sums up Texas summers – if you can handle the high 30s and stifling humidity, take a trip to Texas in June, July and August, if not, early spring and late autumn are far more pleasant weather wise. The State Fair of Texas festival has to be seen to be believed (they really DO do things bigger here) and runs for three weeks each year in Dallas, usually around October. It's an experience well worth timing your Texas holiday for!
