Quick Guide to Walt Disney World Resort

One of the most famous theme parks in the world can be experienced during your holiday in Orlando: Walt Disney World Resort. The Magic Kingdom is most iconic, with its gorgeous Cinderella Castle and rides including Space Mountain. Then there's Epcot, where you can fly over California in the Soarin' ride, and take a tour through 40,000 years of history in Spaceship Earth. And if you want to cool down in the Florida heat, head over to Typhoon Lagoon, where you can surge down the waterslides of Crush 'n' Gusher, and have a splash around in Castaway Creek.

Thanks to its popularity as a holiday destination, there are plenty of flights to Orlando from the UK. Carriers including Thomson, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Delta all offer routes from a conveniently wide range of UK departure points, including London Heathrow, Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow International.

The gateway to your Orlando holiday will be Orlando International Airport, from which Disney hotels offer a shuttle service. Taxis are of course readily available, but most visitors will want to hire a car in Orlando. In fact, Orlando is the biggest single market for car rentals in the world, and all the major companies are present in the airport. This of course means there's no shortage of cars available, but you'd still be well advised to book ahead of time to ensure you get a good deal and that there's no chance of disappointment during the busy summer season. A car is almost essential during a holiday in Orlando, since many of the most popular destinations are far removed from each other, and the freedom to roam between them will make all the difference.

There are a wide variety hotels in the Walt Disney World Resort. From great value hotels, apartmens to more luxurious accommodation you will find a hotel to suite. Most properties are themed but the most important factor is to check their location. Hotels are dotted around the whole resort with some within walking distance of one of the major parks. So if you plan to spend more time in one area then do consider the hotels nearby. Don't worry though as there is Disney resort transport which connect you to all parks. You will also be able to charge in park purchases to your room.
