dealchecker's guide to Canada

Canada is a vast country spanning the northern half of North America. Much of the country is covered in wild, deep green forest, snow-capped mountains and rolling tundra – much of which is national park space.

Canada's key natural wonder is the Niagara Falls – a series of immense, white-blue cascading waterfalls. Canada's cities, meanwhile, are hubs of art and culture – from the hip art and music scenes in Montreal to the captivating heritage museums of Toronto. These buzzing cities also champion top restaurants, flashy shopping malls and quaint boutiques.

Popular Hotel Stays in Canada

Canada's snowy winter months make for a magical skiing season. There's an abundance of ski resort towns studded throughout the snow-capped mountains and rocky valleys of Canada's British Columbia and Alberta provinces.

Whistler, spread across the dizzying Whistler and Blackcomb mountains just north of Vancouver, provides seemingly endless stretches of ski slopes, from amateur runs to Black pistes – it's the most expansive skiable area in North America. In Canada's eastern Quebec province, there are a few relaxed ski resorts in the mountains just north of Montreal.

The small city of Niagara Falls offers an idyllic getaway, right beside Canada's most sensational natural wonder – the roaring Niagara Falls themselves. These enormous waterfalls – tracts of deep-white river water rolling and tumbling over rocky cliffs, casting off rainbow reflections in the Canadian sunlight – mark the border between Canada and the USA.

City Breaks in Canada

Toronto, based in Canada's Ontario province, is a huge, bouncing city spiked with glittering high-rises – like the sharp-pointed CN Tower — and covered in museums and art galleries. Culture vultures will want to see the Art Gallery of Ontario – Canada's largest gallery – which contains classic European and contemporary masterpieces, while history buffs take in the ancient cultural artefacts at the sprawling Royal Ontario Museum.

Vancouver is a laid-back city based between pine-studded mountains and the shimmering Pacific Ocean. The city blends an urban atmosphere with huge stretches of lush green parkland – like the wide, waterfront Stanley Park – and champions quaint vintage and antique boutiques, small galleries and a mix of Neo-Classical and modern architecture.

Search dealchecker for hotels in Montreal, the capital of Quebec, and you can immerse yourself in the stately beauty of the old world McGill university campus, enjoying cool café culture and get a cultural buzz at the bohemian Plateau district – a downtown area marked by Victorian row-houses, independent galleries, record stores and theatres.
