dealchecker's guide to Jamaica

Adrift in the very heart of the Caribbean, Jamaica is a tropical paradise that's set to the enticing smells of jerk chicken and the soft beats of steel drums. Search dealchecker for the top cheap hotels in Jamaica for your dose of reggae-infused adventure this year.

In the north, cotton-white beaches abound in Negril and Ocho Rios, luxurious hotels hide between the jungles and roaring waterfalls cascade down from the misty heights of the Blue Mountains. Dolphin pods swim under the beach shacks, rum punches flow in the cocktail bars and parties erupt on the streets of happening Montego Bay. Meanwhile, the south is given over to the energy of Kingston and the historic Georgian streets of Spanish Town.

Popular Hotel Stays in Jamaica

Ocho Rios is the poster boy for Jamaica's luxury side. Beaches and villas worthy of James Bond line the coast, while swathes of green jungles clamber over the coves and up to the foothills of the central mountain ranges.

Negril is the home of world-famous Seven Mile Beach. Visitors flock here by their droves to settle in one of the countless Jamaica hotels that fringe the sands, the rollers of the Caribbean lapping endlessly along their glistening shore. Expect jet skis and snorkelling, sunbathing and welcoming cocktail shacks aplenty.

Montego Bay, meanwhile, is an electric city on the north coast and the gateway to more of Jamaica's best beaches. It's also party central, with the delights of Gloucester Avenue drawing many a hedonist. Ironshore has the most opulent resorts though, while Hopewell to the west oozes that sleepy Carib vibe.

What to See in Jamaica

Stick to the coast to explore some of the most acclaimed attractions in Jamaica. Starting in the east, there's Dolphin Cove, where you can swim and interact with pods of bottlenoses and stingrays in the sky-blue sea. Then there's James Bond Beach, of Dr. No fame, finishing off with Seven Mile Beach and its countless water sport outfitters.

Kingston is the hub of Jamaican culture and history. Check out the frenetic capital for the must-see Bob Marley Museum on Hope Road, tour National Heroes Park, or delve into the National Gallery.

Jamaica's not all about relaxing either. Intrepid types should be sure to wax up the walking boots and hit the Blue Mountains, scramble to the gushing Dunn's River Falls, or delve into the rugged climes of Cockpit Country, where boas meet red-billed hummingbirds on the jungle trails.
