If you ask what people associate with Memphis, you will almost certainly get a multitude of answers. The most common answer will be Elvis Presley. His Graceland mansion can be found to the south of the city. Even if you're not a fan of the legendary singer, a visit to Graceland is a must as it gives a fascinating insight into the music and life of one of America's most iconic indivudals.
Others will point to the wider music scene that has come out of the city. You can tour Sun Studios where many a famous musician has recorded and sung some of the most well known songs in history. You can sample that music at one of the many bars in downtown Memphis. Whilst there, why not sample some great southern cooking and enjoy the Tennessee hospitiality? A great way of getting around the area is by hiring a car.
Memphis is also the place where Martin Luthur King Jr. was assasinated. The Lorraine Motel, where this great man was shot, has been turned into a museum and is a must for any visitor into the city who wants to learn about the racial tensions existed in the sixties throughout the southern states of the USA.
