dealchecker's guide to Windsor

Only 21 miles from central London, Windsor is one of the most beautiful towns in the south east. It's also full of attractions with Windsor Castle and LEGOLAND Windsor two of the main draws. Horse racing is also a popular draw with both Ascot and Royal Windsor Racecourses found in the locality. Traditionally, most people have just made daytrips to Windsor from a London base but with the increase in cheap hotels in Windsor more people are now choosing to stay in and around the town.

Choosing a Windsor Hotel

With its proximity to the capital, it's easy to see why some visitors choose to stay in London hotels, however, there is also a good choice of Windsor hotels. There are some lovely places to stay in Windsor town centre with more available in nearby Eton town centre. These range from small, luxury boutique hotels to more economical B&Bs. Even the cheap hotels in Windsor are convenient in terms of being ideally located to access the local attractions. More hotels and B&Bs can be found close by in Egham and Maidenhead which are ideal for those who have taken advantage of cheap Windsor car hire.

When to Visit Windsor

The town and attractions can be visited year round, although you need to check exact opening times. LEGOLAND, for example, is closed at certain times of the year and opening times are limited at Windsor Castle. The summer months are extremely busy ones as are periods of the year which coincide with school holidays so it's important to book hotels early, but there is lots to do whenever you decide to go.
